Centre for Circular Economy

Kemi-Tornio’s economic region is formed around three major industrial companies and it represents approximately 80 % of Lapland’s industrial production. Exports of companies in the region exceed EUR 5 billion annually.

The Kemi-Tornio economic area has been operating for many decades in line with the principles of an industrial circular economy, and on this basis the region has been systematically developing an industrial circular economy and industrial symbiosis.

The major industrial aggregates in the region are Outokumpu Oyj Tornio mills and Kemi mine, Metsä Group Kemi mills, Stora Enso Oyj Veitsiluoto mills and numerous environmental and industrial service companies.

The Centre for Circular Economy and Bioeconomy led by Kemin Digipolis Oy is also active in the area, with the aim of developing a more competitive environment for companies operating in the circular economy.
